About Candice

Since I was a child I have had a unique affinity with the arts, education, and to people. Painting, illustration, film, language, and music have all been passions of mine. Being French and raised partially overseas, I have an appreciation and understanding for the arts and expression that enhances my perception of the world. I am always searching for opportunities to learn and to teach. Implementing this creativity into the pursuit of helping others would be ideal for me.

Drawing, writing, and playing musical instruments since childhood, I excelled in primary and secondary school in the arts. I explored and honed my language and art skills at Florida State University as I studied French, Studio Art, and Art History. My communication skills, multi-tasking skills, and simple wishes to make others fulfilled have proven useful my roles as an English teacher in Paris and Tokyo, as well as my current position as a Museum Educator at the Reading Public Museum. These positions abroad improved my adaptability, communication, and work ethic. Every lesson I made was treated with the utmost care.

Additionally, my parents had my younger brothers when I was in middle school, and being able to be their sister, best friend, and guardian as our parents worked affected me profoundly. I began cataloguing and recording their childhoods, as well as creating short films during my travels. My family treasures these memories, and the emotion and artistry I pour into breathing life into these memories has elicited a passion for film and photography.

I strive to create as many meaningful relationships as possible, and to brighten the days of those around me. I was able to learn and grow every day alongside my students and coworkers as I explored the museums, traditions, and streets of France and Japan. I made loving friendships in both countries, sharing with them the beauty of art and cultures around the world.

I cannot get enough of seeing people grow with their passions. The human moments I have shared with people over a lesson are so valuable to me. These moments can build confidence, broaden horizons, and be more fulfilling than many other parts of a person's life.

After watching my baby brothers grow, I took my love of teaching to the classroom after college, where I taught English for elementary schoolers in France. Then I taught English to high schoolers in Tokyo. Now I teach people of every age at the Reading Public Museum.

I am a renaissance woman who has excelled in many fields, including learning multiple langauges, cultures, history, various sports, and every facet of the arts (reading, writing, music, and visual art). I have honed these skills at Florida State University where I majored in Studio Art, French, and Art History, and then continued on to teach abroad in Paris and Tokyo. I am currently a museum educator at the Reading Public Museum, where I educate visitors on nature, art, and science.

About the lesson

Generally the first lesson is a "get to know each other" lesson to make everyone more comfortable. This is where I evaluate the student's current level, then figure out what motivates them and what other interests of theirs can be applied to make our lessons more enjoyable.

I have worked with students of every age! I am a very empathetic person who tries to understand the world from as many views as possible. This allows me to grow as a teacher and better serve my students.

I think a student must trust their teacher, enjoy their company, and really feel understood by their teacher. This can help both people overcome more obstacles during lessons in the future, and will give the student even more incentive to try hard and to commit.

Jokingly asking a student if they are practicing in their sleep, because every time I see them I can see instant results.
