When working with a new student, I typically begin by having a casual conversation. I want to learn about their experiences working with other tutors if they had one in the past. What areas do they feel they need help with the most. What motivates and deters and find out how I can best be of assistance. I then like to create a plan that works for everyone. I find different approaches work for other people; it's important to understand we don't all learn in the same way.
