About Cynthia

I have 20 years of teaching English and a Masters degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. I'm patient and nurturing while at the same time I expect and encourage excellence in the students I tutor.

I teach all ages (3-83) and needs including speaking, reading, and writing.

Not only do I strive to plan a lesson that is appropriate to my student's level and goals, but also is interesting, and fun. The joy of interacting with learners and witnessing their acheivements in writing, reading, and speaking keeps me motivated to be the best I can be as thier tutor.

I began teaching when I was in college. I took some courses on teaching English and writing. I taught creative writing to a group of "at risk" high school students. After that year I went to Japan and taught a group of doctors how to speak and write better English. I decided to become an English teacher after college.

I have a master's degree in teaching English to speakers of other languages. I also have more than 16 years of experience in teaching students of all ages and nationalities.

About the lesson

I offer a free session to determine what the student's learning goals are, his or her current level of competency, and learning style. I determine if we are a good fit for one another and if we both agree to proceed, I will write up an individualized learning plan for the student and a lesson plan for the first paid class.

I have worked with all ages and most nationalities. I currently choose to work with preschool through sixth grade students of any nationalitiy. My favorite student is one who is eager to learn and willing to take direction.

Cynthia is a wonderful tutor. She has been helping our 2nd grader with English and Writing for the past 9 months. Not only is Cynthia an experienced teacher, she is also very warm and kind. Our son loves his lessons with Teacher Cynthia because she always tries to make the lessons engaging by understanding her students personal interests. She also leverages many different tools from online educational platforms to news articles to make the lessons interesting.

In addition to being wonderful with kids, Cynthia also take time to connect with the parents. Then she marks and makes notes on my writing and returns them to me to review and make the changes before our scheduled meeting time. We then meet and discuss, and I get a chance to ask my questions. Also, I wanted to read and write on the Falter book and recommended us to work on the book in addition to the Newsela articles. She purchased the book to comply with my request and has been reading the book and giving me prompts to write. She then corrects my writing, and we discuss. I could not hire a better tutor and really appreciate all her hard work and efforts.
