About Salvatore
As a full time teacher in the school district of Philadelphia, I have a wide variety of experience in working with students and teaching Reading and Writing. I have a passion for both learning, and helping others to learn.
Tutoring with me gives you access to the same education you would receive in any Pennsylvania school, as I am PA state certified. The only difference, is that the instruction is laser focused to meet your personal educational needs.
While there are endless reasons that I love teaching and tutoring, there are two reasons that stand out most to me.
1. Witnessing a student understand a concept that they did not understand before; knowing I am helping other make progress.
2. I learn from each student I meet, both in class and through tutoring. This results in daily learning for myself, which is very rewarding.
I have had a passion for helping others throughout my entire life, and have had the desire to become a teacher from a young age. Influenced by both family members who are teachers, as well as teachers who I have crossed in my path as a child, I proceeded to reach my goals and acheive my dream.
I have a bachelor's degree is Middle Years education, with a focus in Literacy; I am near completetion of a Literacy ED master's program; I have 7 years of varied classroom experience.

One of the most important things that I have found in necessary for success in any learning situation is community and comfort. The student must feel comfortable and safe before they can learn. So I have a two step process that occurs when first meeting a student.
1.) Get to know the student, determine interests, struggles, etc. Establish a community setting.
2.) Research based assessment to determine reading level.
I have worked with a variety of students. My professional teaching career has been in the Philadelphia school district working with grades 6-8, but through teaching experiences in college, as well as years of tutoring, I have worked with most age ranges from grades 4-12.
Regardless of which tutor you hire for you needs, it is important that you believe in yourself and your abilities. That is the way to success.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
It is important to have an understanding of what your struggles are.
In my experience, students make the quickest progress when they have taken the time to reflect on their situation.
Prior to meeting with your tutor, ask yourself:
1. What things am I good at? How so?
2. What am I struggling with?
3. What are some reasons I might be struggling in this way?
4. What can I do differently to improve?

mr. sal reached out to me to ask for a review and I couldnt be happier than to write the review. My daughters no longer get tutored but a couple years ago we were recommended to mr. sal from a friend. He was one of the most genuine people I have ever meet and he helped my girls learn and get better and even after 2 other tutors nothing worked until mr. sal helped. They would meet him at the library andwork a few times a week. anyway, he is great!
Sal helped my son see increasis in his grades more than I have ever seen before. It is nice to know that my son likes school a bit more now that he doesn;t struggle as much.
