About Emily

As an English Graduate, I understand the trials and tribulantions of learning to read, write, and edit. More than that, I understand the mental frusterations that come with understanding literary elements and techniques.

My passion for tutoring developed from my personal commitment to academia. The success I hold for myself will be the same for the students I tutor. Achieving that ah-ha moment with my students is a magical moment that means I have reached my goal.

Individualized learning allows me to create a platform essential to each student. The process of teach, learn, assess, engage, report, and support empowers me to respond to the needs of my students.

My experience in English and English Literature are held at an advanced level. I spent several years studying British Lit and the like. Through this, I developed a traditional and non-traditional approach to teaching classic Literature. As I have spent years reading endlessly, writing is closely followed. As I writer, I look for a story in every experience I have. As odd as that sounds, it gave me the ability to develop an idea quickly and expand that idea into a story.

I offered tutoring services when I was in high school. When I reached college, I began assistant teaching for in home students. I made the switch from assistant teaching to tutoring a year ago.

About the lesson

When working with a new student, I get to know them, their interests, what grade their in, favorite subject, etc. I ask what they are struggling with and discuss any techniques they have tried before reaching out to tutoring.

I have worked with a diverse group of students ranging from 4 years old to 22 years old. I have worked with students who have diasbilities, such as dyslexia and ADHD.

I would suggest looking at the profile of this expert, making sure they have the right experience and credentials.

In the beginning of the semester, I was to tutor a 9-year- old girl that struggles with dyslexia. Her reading and writing levels were significantly lower than her grade level. After lessons about writing and diverse levels of reading, she was able to improve to just shy her level by present time. By making reading multisensory and taking advantage of a "word-wall" to understand basic phonics, my student excelled in a few months time. When it came to writing, I had my student listen to stories out loud, helping them with key words so they can relieve overthinking and focus on the structure and content, and utilized handwriting tools. We reached an ah-ha moment!
