About Melissa
My name is Melissa. I have 6 years of experience tutoring elementary students. I have tutored students in Kinder-6th. I provide consistent homework assistance and test prep. I also work with students to improve their study skills, organizational abilities, and time management capabilities. I tutor at-risk K-1 students, helping them to bring their reading skills up to grade level and beyond. I also offer summer tutoring to master existing competencies and to prepare for the upcoming school year.
I have been teaching as a paraeducator in the Paradise Valley School District for 6 years. I have worked as a one-on-one in 4th and 5th classrooms. I have also worked in K-2 self-contained Special Ed classrooms, designing differential curriculum for students of varying abilities. I have training and experience working with a wide range of disabilities and behaviors. I’ve worked with students with Autism, ADHD, Executive Function Disorder, and Emotional Disorder.
I will travel to your home to tutor (fee may increase slightly for longer distances) or can offer my home as an option, if needed. My rate is $35-$50, depending on your child’s tutoring needs. I am available after school and weekends. I can provide references as well as my fingerprint clearance card.

I love children. I have a heart for their struggles and respect them as fellow humans. I enjoy hearing about their lives and the trials and tribulations they have overcome. I appreciate how difficult school can be for many kiddos. It it is very fulfilling helping a child to learn to love it.

My first priority would be to get some background and information about the student from parents and/or teachers. It is important to understand students' current levels in academics and study skills, as well as any disabilities or behaviors to be aware of. After defining goals for the student, I will prepare curriculum designed to meet each student's specific needs.
