About Emily
These tutoring services are provided by Emily Lozier, a recent graduate from Kalama High School. She was the Valedictorian of the 2017 class with awards in several disciplines of study, and is currently enrolled in multiple colleges including the University of Washington. She is pursuing a degree in Rhetoric and Professional Writing with the goal of becoming a teacher, so that she may help future students achieve their greatest potential. These services come from a student invested in your future, as you are.
I love to see progress in students, as they not only begin to perform better but as they grow more confident in themselves and their abilities to reach their goals. It is fulfilling to see a student become proud of their accomplishments and work for more.

I am an English major at a top, world-ranking university. I have much experience as a standout student, graduating with the top honors from high school. Though my degree is incomplete, I have experience from the student-end of education that can be used to help in very practical ways to improve performance.

I begin by first analyzing the current situation by looking at previous assignments, current grades, and if needed a few sample questions to assess where the student is at. Then, I compare those results to the goals of the student. I then create a personalized plan to help the student reach those goals.
I have worked with dyslexic students, students suffering from attention deficit disorders, and students who simply need additional help with understanding course material.
I would recommend looking for a teacher with experience in their discipline, and who has worked with a variety of students before. Having that kind of a background will allow teachers to come up with innovative solutions to challenges their student faces, and to be creative with supplemental materials.
I am particularly proud of a student that struggled for years with reading. I began tutoring him when he was young, helping him learn to read to understand text and write in an organized fashion. He'd had intense difficulties for so long, and began to feel that there wasn't any hope for him to improve. He was self-conscious about his abilities for years and avoided academia entirely, resulting in poor grades. However, last year, he enrolled in an AP Literature and Language course, which he passed with a B. He has now decided he wants to pursue college to get a degree in physical therapy - a job he had always admired, but never before thought he was capable of.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Most importantly, students should try to think of what their goals are, whether that means passing a specific test or understanding daily assignments and readings better. That way, when I step in, I can see where you are in comparison to your goals, and help you reach them as quickly as possible.

I charge $25 an hour for all elementary, middle, and high school students. If there is extended travel to meet you or fees for parking, I may charge for travel expenses.
