About Jessica
I am a middle school English teacher with more than four years of experience creating and teaching 6th-8th grade Reading, Grammar, Vocabulary, and Social Studies curriculum. Prior to that, I worked for years in preschools and daycare centers teaching foundational literacy skills.
I love getting to know my students and showing them that they are capable of absolutely anything they commit to practicing. Learning should be joyful!
In high school I began working in a preschool through a child psychology class. I decided to continue working in preschools through college, and then joined City Year, an Americorps program, to tutor in a 7th grade classroom in Boston. I then joined a teaching program to obtain my Master's degree and taught in 6th and 8th grade classrooms for the next four years.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish language and literature, a Masters degree in Highly Effective Teaching, and five years of accumulated professional development seminars in middle schools.

I begin working with new students by asking them about their goals, learning about their personality, and determining their learning preferences. Then we co-create a plan to arrive at the student's goals.
I've worked as a paraprofessional for a student with autism, general education students, special education students in an inclusion setting, English language learners at all levels, and students from diverse backgrounds.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
It's helpful for teachers to hear about specific past experiences in education that made you feel empowered and good, as well as experiences that left you feeling frustrated and bad about yourself. That will help them understand how to best lift you up and teach you what you need to know!

Details
My rate is $40 an hour for tutoring. I can either work with materials the student provides or create individualized materials to focus on a particular skill or content area.
