About Bonnie
Hi! My name is Bonnie and I love interracting with students and helping them with their English-learning needs. In regard to tutoring I am looking to help students from middle school to college with their English/Language Arts classes; this includes helping them interpret texts and writing essays/papers. I am currently attending James Madison University and working towards an English degree and obtaining my teaching license for grades 6-12. I have some experience in tutoring as I am in an education program that requires me to get that hands-on involvement with kids. I have a passion for both reading and writing, whether it's a creative piece or a paper for school. I truly look forward to sharing my love for English with students and aiding in any way that I can (even if English isn't your favorite subject in school)!
I have been truly lucky when it comes to my own education and have had amazing experiences with my own English teachers and professors. Because of their passion, I quickly came to the realization that I wanted to share that passion too. In the tutoring experiences that I've had in the education program here at JMU, I've loved every second of it.
I am attending my fourth year at James Madison University, working towards a bachelors degree in English and in the future a teaching license for grades 6-12.

I think it is ideal to first get to know the student that I am working with; even if it's the simple facts of their favorite color, pets that they have and love, and their hobbies. Creating a relationship is important to me because it grows a certain trust between me as the tutor and the student that I am working with.
I've worked with various types of students; I've worked with the students that don't really enjoy school, the students that get easily distracted, and the quiet one's that don't always want to ask for help.
If you are looking to hire a teacher/tutor in English, I think it's important to find one that you get along with. For example, maybe you find that you don't click with me, that is totally okay! Finding someone who you enjoy working with and learning from is important because it's more likely that you'll be successful.
I was once a part of a tutoring program at a middle school and had this one student who got distracted by almost everything. I devloped a relationship with this student and he was incredibly smart, but he didn't always want to do the work. As I gained trust from him, he became more productive with every session.

2. Will you be able to push yourself when it comes to the concepts that you struggle with?
