About Matthew
I am a Professor at UMass Boston with a Masters in Creative Writing and a Masters in Education. I have a BA in English and History from Colby College. I have taught college essay writing for 2.5 years and college creative writing for 1 year. I've also taught 6th through 12th grade international students. I specialize in the writing and reading of poetry, as well as the writing of college essays, though I am also fit to help with literary analysis and comprehension.
I like writing feedback to students and empowering them as intellectuals and artists. I like having conversations with students that help give us direction.

I've learned the value of listening--getting to know a student by letting them provide me information. I try to enter with feedback at the right moment and not provide so much critique that I stifle or confuse. I try to identify, with students, what they need most.
