About Chloe
I am a recent college graduate who knows exactly what skills you need to refine in order to be successful as you enter your college career and perservere throughout! As I hold a bachelor's degree in English, I am well equipped to assist high school students with the refinement of their comprehension and writing skills, as well as those who are about to embark on their college journey and want to make sure their college essays are compelling and informative about who they are at their core. Writing has always been my favorite (and most highly rewarding) mode of communication, and I believe it is a skill that anyone can open up the world with! Come and learn to write with me, whether you just want to improve your general writing skills, refine a particular paper or essay, or receive assistance generating ideas and pathways for what story you want to tell.
I have experience with both creative and academic writing, and have published a number of poems in literary magazines. I have also presented some of my written research at conferences throughout my undergraduate career.
I got started teaching through my post-graduate job! Although I served in many TA roles throughout my undergraduate journey across departments and disciplines, once I graduated I took a full time Teachers Assistant postion at a local Leadership Academy. After seeing how students respond to student-centered and patient assistance with developing their skillsets and becoming better scholars, I realized that helping others learn how to write well and feel empowered through their words was something I would love to be spending more time on.
I have a bachelors degree in both English and Religious Studies. Although English is more traditionally applicable to tutoring students in writing, being a scholar of Religious Studies truly taught me how to be rigorous, disciplined, thoughtful, and creative in my academic writing. I like to say that my English classes were teaching me how to survive my Religious Studies coursework!
I also have some experience with creative writing, as I took a few classes on the subject during my undergraduate career. Additionally, I was a Lead Editor of our college's Literary Magazine for 3 years, and spent the summer of 2019 learning how to write grants for a social-justice-oriented creative writing collective in North Carolina.

When working with a new student, I will take a bit of time to get to know them both as a person and as a writer. What kind of writing are you looking to work on? What writing skill(s) are you hoping to improve? What is your goal for this piece of writing? What is your goal as a writer, overall?
After discerning what the student is looking for from me, I am happy to help them generate ideas, refine writing or researching techniques, and help them meet important deadlines while creating worthwhile writing work. My ultimate goal is to help my students understand the power that writing holds and can present to the writer, both through offering new ways to communicate ideas, as well as enabling them to channel their perspective on our ever-changing world into their own words, creating original, invigorating work!
I have worked with all types of students, from ages 10-17, with and without any given learning difficulty. I have quite a bit of experience assisting students who struggle with attention disorders.
If I were to give advice to a student looking to hire a teacher in my area of expertise, I would say to make sure the person you find EXCITES YOU!! Find someone you think you might get along with well, even if they were just a family friend, not your teacher. Because this is a supplemental service, I am of course here to help you, but I can't truly help you, or anyone, if you aren't engaged in the tasks we are undertaking together. So, be excited to work with your tutor! Find someone who makes you feel validated and capable, even when you are struggling.
