About Caleb

I am in pursuit of my Bachelor's of Arts in English Secondary Education because I want to teach high school one day. I would like to tutor to start teaching others about the power of the English language for the uses of informing and persuading through literature and the student's own writing.

In high school, I started by helping students in their classes when I was a TA and then at times I would spend time after school tutoring if anyone needed help although this didn't happen often.

Throughout high school I was a teacher-aide in an English class and I would speak with students about the content they were learning when they needed help. Additionally, I have strengthened my English skills by going to classes surrounding my English Education major so I have knowledge of literature and writing as well as foundations of teaching.

I will begin by asking what they need help with. Having an idea of what kinds of problems that they are having will give me a better idea of what methods I can use to help them build an understanding of the content. Once I understand what the student needs help with, together we will look at the essay, article, book, passage, or anything that they are working on so. I will ask them questions surrounding the topic that they are covering so that together we can start putting together the puzzle pieces that they need to get to their final answer.

I have worked with students that have a hard time learning. These kinds of students aren't necessarily difficult in classes however, they just didn't catch on to the material as fast as others.

My area of expertise lies in essay writing. Throughout my journey of learning to write essays lied within the usage of evidence within their essays. I remember when I first started, I would plug in multiple sentences to even paragraphs of evidence with very little words within my warrants to support my evidence. The biggest piece of advice that I can give is inserting small pieces of evidence that are the most essential to help get your point across while also use large warrants to help support that evidence.

An event that I am fond of recently was when I went with my fiancé and his dad to a business conference. During this conference I had the ability to learn about the industry that they work in and how they determine prices during a specific period of time. I really enjoyed this time because it gave me an opportunity to learn more about topics that I didn't know anything about.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Before approaching a teacher when having questions, the student should be very specifc. Rather than asking "I don't understand. Can you help me please?" they should look into exactly where they don't understand so that the teacher goes right to the source of their difficulty to help the student understand quicker.

I don't have a standard system however, I would probably charge by the hour.
