About Anna
I am a professional writer and editor who loves helping others develop a passion for the written word!
I have a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing from George Washington University, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude and was awarded the Creative Writing Department's award for the best senior thesis in fiction. I also earned a perfect score on the reading portion of the SAT.
I provide tutoring services in the areas of reading comprehension, grammar, and writing.
I am a certified Teach English as a Foreign Language instructor and have tutored all ages, from 1st-graders to adults working at Nike's corporate headquarters in Prague. I have also had wonderful experiences tutoring with Catholic Charities, The English-Speaking Union, and Step Up Tutoring.
I work with you to meet your goals, encourage your creativity, and develop sound habits. I look forward to meeting you!
I first began teaching when I earned my Teach English as a Foreign Language certification in Prague. I wanted to tutor as a means of subsidizing my travels through Central Europe. But I ended up loving it so much more than I thought I would! When I returned home to the United States, I continued to seek out opportunities to tutor on a volunteer basis because I enjoyed it so much.

I typically begin by asking my new student what they're hoping to achieve. Are they looking to score well on a test? Improve their conversational English? Become a better fiction writer, for personal or professional reasons? I work with the student to define a clear goal or set of goals and then tailor our sessions to meet that need.
All ages! I've tutored students from 3-60+ years old. I've taught in classrooms, corporate offices, private homes, and, of course, over Zoom.
I would advise the student to ask the teacher lots of questions. How do you plan to structure our sessions? What sort of work will I be expected to do? What kind of feedback do you provide? How and when can I get in touch with you? A good teacher will talk to you about specifics, and will also be honest if they believe they are not the right fit for you.
I recently started baking (as so many of us during these strange pandemic times have). I was intimidated by the prospect of making Boston Cream Pie Cupcakes from scratch, but my partner insisted those were the cupcakes he wanted to eat. After many hours, many messy bowls, and much anxiety about burning the cream filling (I only burned it a LITTLE at the bottom), I produced 12 delicious cupcakes. It's the most proud of myself I have been in quite a while. And further proof that it really is the little things in life...
