The first thing I do when working with a new student is ask him or her about their perceived needs and goals for improvement. I like to learn about each student as an individual so that I can provide the best possible methods and materials. If appropriate, I have students take a quick learning styles assessment that give immediate results and feedback. This assessment also gives tools for better learning experiences and techniques.
I want students to feel comfortable with me as an academic coach, tutor and mentor. Each student needs to feel like he or she can express their thoughts and frustrations, and ask questions.

Ms. Jeanie has given me the confidence and willpower to really believe in myself and the extent of my abilities. Before meeting her, I had no study strategy and failed to keep up with my peers at school in reading. However, with Ms. Jeanie's help, my learning flew through the roof, and now as a high academic student, I know that I would not be where I am today if it were not for Ms. Jeanie's guidance and services all those years ago.
My son was failing in public school and when I took him home to homeschool him, I wasn't having much luck either. It's only with Miss Jeanie at Finding Strengths that my son was able to catch up with the rest of his peers. She not only got him to learn what he hadn't been able to, but she's taught him life skills that I didn't think he could learn. Things like time management and flexibility. Things he had trouble with because of his disabilities. He is succeeding so much more then I ever thought possible and it's all due to Miss Jeanie.
