I got started teaching through the love of first being a substitute teacher.
I am Professional Licensed Special Education Teacher with 19 plus years of experience providing reading and math intervention for students. I specialize in academic intervention.

My typical process for working with a new student is the following: I schedule a very short meet & greet the tutor meeting with the parent and student. After the meet & greet meeting, we schedule a pretesting session with student to pinpoint the problem area the student is experiencing in the classroom. Lastly, I share those test results with the parent, and then tutoring class will begin. This process is down quickly and efficiently.
I have worked with special needs students who are on 504's and IEPs. I have worked with students who are in need of academic intervention. I have worked with homebound and homeschool students. Grades PreK-12th.
The advice I would give a student looking to hire a teacher in my area of expertise is to make sure he or she is able to effectively communicate their academic needs to that teacher.
A recent event I am fond of was receiving a report that one of my students had made 1st Quarter Honor Roll. When she had learned she had made the Honor Roll, she shared her joy of achieving this honor with me.

Questions students should think through before talking to teachers about their needs are the following: Did I follow the given instructions? Did I hear the given instructions? Did I understand the given instructions? Do I need help?
