About Samantha
• I love to learn myself! I know it's cliche', but I truly believe that knowledge is power!
•I grew up in the home of a Special Education Teacher, so I understand that not only does everyone learn at their own pace, but they also learn differently as well. I am patient, understanding, and willing to find the way that works best for you, to achieve the results and goals you wish to accomplish.
• I am passionate about helping people learn, understand, and retain the information they need. I try make sure those who come to me have everything they need to be as successful as they can be.
•My students are armed with the necessary tools to take with them to use through their academic journey, as well as the rest of their life.
•I have been tutoring since I was in 9th grade. I tutored, 2 different class mates in 2 different classes. I fell in love with helping others achieve success. As I got older, I juggled more students each year and I tutored through my junior year in college before taking a break from it. Years later when friend of mine went back to school, I took him on and tutored him in anywhere from 2-3 classes a semester for all 4 years. I currently have 3 children, ages twelve and two fourteen year olds. Naturally, we do homework together when needed and study for tests weekly, or did, during the school year, pre-COVID19.
•I have a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Network Administration & An MBA & Master's Level Certificate in Marketing
•My favorite subjects are History & English having a passion for writing, being an avid book worm, & COMPLETE HISTORY NERD!

My mother worked as a Special Education Teacher and I used to help A LOT around her classroom. School always came very easy to me and my classmates always used to ask for my help. In High School, I noticed a classmate struggling in History. She asked me one day for some answers. I told her that I could tell then do her or that I could just show her, how to not only find the answers but how to study and create devices for remembering, so that she could retain the information. I loved teaching her. I kept tutoring through my bachelors. I currently work with my Middle School and High School aged children. However, I have tutored my friends kids in Elementry School as all.

Before the actual first session:
Email Student's Parents' (if minor) and Student:
•Introduce myself, a little get to you me in for, give my contact information, availability, and ask for the best time to call/FaceTime/zoom, etc so that I can discuss the particulars about the tutoring arrangement with them?
•Make Pre-Arranged Call
•Ask for a little background Info on parents and student (get to know you info)
• Find out Goals both Student and parents have
• If they prefer single session or if they mind other students?
•Find out what it is we will be studying for (a particular subject, a test, test taking skills, etc)?
•Will it be on going, throughout the year, or a few times leading up to a test etc? How many times a week, month, etc? Discuss rate of pay, etc? How do they prefer to "meet"; In-person (my house, I come to them, zoom/face-time/Skype, meet somewhere else (library/Starbucks, etc)?
•If we will be writing a paper or doing a project, what type is it? What kinds of materials do they need? Will the parents be providing or do I need to provide and then be reimbursed? Does it need prior approval and if so has it already been gotten? (Basic, fact finding questions) Does the student have a computer or will they be needing to use one with they are going to need to borrow one when here during the session?
•Does student know what type of learner they are (auditory, verbal,kinestetic)? If not, can and would they be willing to come/meet or can I come to them a a few days before our first session to administer a test to find out so I can assess the best way to help student study?
•Does the student need any special type of accommodations to help them with the process?
•If so what do they require and does the student have what they need or do I need to provide it?
•Is there anytime that they know that the student will be unable to attend any sessions?
•During Duration of Tutoring Sessions
•Keep Folder with a copy of all Lesson Plans & things worked on during session to be give to parents via email & paper copy at end of session, copy retained for records in student's person folder.
•Students personal progress tracked weekly with "tests"(made by me) taken to assess weekly.
•Check in with student at least 2x during week between sessions to check on the and make sure they are staying track check in with parents as well to make sure they don't need ashy thing as well.
•After Completion
•Follow-up with student & parents to gauge success & satisfaction of both satisfaction and effectiveness.
•Ask if you can be of any further assistance
•let them know you are available in the future
•students that needed xtra help, due to a learning or physical disability.
•those with test anxiety or who tended to get overly anxious

•Check credentials because you want to make sure that your tutor knows what they are doing however, the most experience doesn't always mean the best person for you.
•Sometimes you have to feel people out. Talk to many people and go with your gut.
•Ask them to give them a sample of typical study materials or a past tutoring session and lesson plan. What options do they think are best for you and how would they go about help you?
•If it doesn't seem like a good fit
•~It's not a plan you could stick out from start to finish, it's overwhelming, you've tried it this way before and it didn't work for you, or if you've tried their way and it doesn't work, or maybe it's just not what you are looking for, then try someone else. Ask them the same things, until you find the right fit.
•Also, the most expensive doesn't always mean the best. People are paid based on experience and sometimes tutors set their own rates.
•Find our how often they will check in with you, and how available they make themself to you should they need you throughout the week between sessions.
•How do they measure progress? With tests? Reports?
• What are their policies on make up work and cancellations?
make sure before choosing a tutor that not only are they the right fit but that you understand their policies completely. And that they understand your needs as well.
Recently, my daughter and I decided to collaborate and write a book together. She writes a chapter. Then I read it, edit it, make the changes, changing the color of the font so she know me what they are, then write my own chapter. Then the process repeats only her doing the same to my addition after approving or rejecting my edits. Sometimes we sit in the same room, sometimes we are down the hall, and sometimes I work on it while I'm running errands, which gets interesting. This week we were down the hall. It was probably the most interesting session we've had. We are both very sarcastic, and the chapter we were working on was one that was filled with quippy humor. The random sudden out bursts of laughter that started to come out of the hallway startled the dog, and caused other members of the house to inquire as to if we were ok. It was such a good Time and rewarding experience for both of us, and we ended up getting two really good chapters done.
Collaborative writing is such a great tool to use. Sometimes writing on your own seems so daunting that you may be extremely talented, but if you never get started and you never write anything down what does being a great writer do for you? Absolutely nothing! That's why I think tutoring is so important. Sometimes you just need someone to help you figure out the best way for you to go about doing something.
