About Dana
My business is designed to fill in gaps of knowledge while keeping the essence of the student's personality. Developing use of new tools and mediums to expand student skills.High school art award, commercial art, painting and drawing 4 classes weekly, student teacher. College Classes in acrylic, and drawing. Teaching art in local galleries. Mendocino County Fair, Watercolor first place. Tehama County Fair, Watercolor 3rd place. Pima county Fair, watercolor.
Organizing a painting give me freedom to make my own design. Colors are alive with feeling and emotion. The artwork can be turned into greeting card to make someone special happy, to print on fabric, or print on useful items to sell or my own use. (concealed information)
I started teaching when the person framing my work asked me to give classes in her shop in 1996.
High School art award 1967 and Student teacher. Four years of college classes in commercial art, acrylics, pencil, Photoshop. Painting with other artists exchanging ideas. 1998 first place at Mendocino County Fair. 2010 third place Tehama County Fair. 2016 3 second place with my art printed on fabric and sewn into garments at Pima County Fair, sales ensued. Displayed art work in several galleries in California and Arizona.

I enjoy seeing what project the student is working on, asking how they would like to branch out with new skills. New thoughts like color mixing, use of random shapes and neutrals for shading open new ways to give the student confidence.
Students I've had were adults who already paint and just needed some fine tuning on their technique. Some students who were terrified to put paint to paper were encouraged to play at art. Children who needed fun time during vacation with a dip in my pool afterwards. I volunteered to teach watercolors at the gym I worked out in, some elderly ones found watercolors relaxing. One lady recovering from a stroke benefited from using the working hand and arm.
Find a teacher willing to focus on the student's work. Pass over the teacher who focuses on their own accomplishments. The student then feels they will never be good enough. Is the lesson rigid or more relaxed.
Each time I can show students good paints, explain different kinds of papers, that pencils come in different strengths, what erasers to use and stubs to blend with, gives me joy that horizons are expanded and results will be quality.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Does the student want to have fun experimenting with different mediums such as pencil, watercolor, oils, acrylics?
Can the student discipline themselves to learning progressive steps in shapes, lines, perspective, shading, highlights, subject matter, an using tools correctly?
Does the student lean towards abstract, classical or contemporary art?
What is the student's goal with art, a hobby for relaxation or for profit and sales?
Is the student comfortable with the teacher?

I have taken lessons from Dana Eker and it was wonderful! She is fabulous at explaining things so you can understand the techniques. She is also excellent at helping you move past the fear of trying new things. I was terrified of watercolor paint but she helped be enjoy them and now I want to work with them more often.
