About Jonathan
As an art Tutor with a degree in Fine Arts from the Delaware College of Art and Design, I am able to offer kids raging in age, the opportunity to develop skills in drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture through activities structured to meet and expand the child’s interest. I value traditional methods of drawing and painting which I believe can help children stay engaged as they can track their own progress. I develop and a revise a curriculum tailored to the child with a variety of activities both challenging and fun. I’m interested in teaching young kids skills to exercise their creativity and older kids marketable skills that can aid in progress toward a future as a visual artist. I have experience developing a variety of activities that help children focus on an entertaining task that has them thinking and working with their hands to make something beautiful and meaningful.

I have a degree in Fine Arts from the Delaware College of Art and Design. I have experience working with students rageing in age. Although, I have not studied teaching, over the years I enjoyed helping the people around me improve their skills and have some experience engaging with a whole classroom of young kids to work on art related activities.

When meeting a new student, I endeavor to gauge their interest in art and depending on the age or level of interest in learning the skills I have, choose a possible curriculum to work with. For children of any age there are numerous drawing activities that are both challenging and fun. While these activities may center around drawing they can take the form of puzzles or games. Clear dialogue between myself and the student is of the upmost importantance, so I will be asking them questions and encouraging them to ask questions of me.
I have worked with students ranging from pre-K to Seniors in high school.
I would advise a student of any age to ask questions and try to explain their thinking through the process of developing their skills in drawing and painting. For younger children I would encourage them to seek out their own interests through experimentation and for an older student, consider developing their interest in art into a marketable skill.
I had put together a workshop for a class of 2nd graders that involved demonstrations, drawing activities and dialogue between myself and the children. The children stayed engaged throughout the period and had a lot of fun speaking with me and showing me the drawings that they had completed throughout the workshop.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about what issue they may be having and possible ways to solve it. If a student is unable to develop solutions for an issue, they are encouraged to identify and articulate what they believe the issue is. From their, I work with the student to consider possible solutions to ensure a learning experience.
