About Janet
I am an illustrator, paper artist and educator working extensively with mixed media art and design. I teach both traditional and digital arts. My work includes drawing, painting, digital design, light animation, 3D paper sculptures and displays. I use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator an Animate in my lessons.
My background is in designing and building custom sculptures for special events and window displays. I also illustrate cover art, chapter books and unique invitations. I am currently working as a freelance artist which allows me to communicate directly with my clients, whether they are a company, individual or student. Freelancing has given me autonomy over my schedule and allows me to be flexible with teaching part-time.
As an educator, I have worked with teens and adults, teaching drawing, painting, basic animation, set design, costume making and prop building for theatrical performance. I believe every student has the ability to learn and achieve their goals. My strengths are in my patience, being a great listener and building confidence in my students as they pursue their own journey into art making, whether for personal or professional reasons. I have the technical skills to offer advanced level learning and portfolio building. My digital expertise is in using Adobe Creative Suite, primarily Photoshop, Illustrator, and Animate.
I received my BFA in Illustration from Paier College of Art and attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City for my MFA in Illustration.
I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have and look forward to sharing my expertise. I will respond quickly to your inquiries and look forward to meeting you!
My subjects of expertise include: Drawing, Painting, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Animate, 3D Design in Paper Art and Paper Sculpture, Concept Art for Character Design and Background Design.
Contact me to learn more about what I can do for you. I would love to discuss your goals and help you on your journey in art making. Let's schedule a lesson.

I truly enjoy sharing my expertise to students who really want to learn and get better at their craft, whether it is for personal or professional reasons. I have a lot to give, and seeing my student's improve inspires me to keep making art and keep sharing the techniques to do so.
I was very lucky to have joined a super fun summer program for the youth at Audubon Arts in New Haven, CT. The staff were highly creative, intelligent and full of positive energy. The people who attended the program actually WANTED to be there. I started as an art assistant and worked my way up to director in three years. I made best friends with some of the staff and remain great friends to this day. Since this time, I have led my own workshops, watercolor classes, and online tutoring.
Drawing has been the foundation to every project I have ever worked on. As a creative professional, I rely on my ability to draw in order to express my ideas and generate products. The best way to learn is by understanding the basics, be open to experimenting, and have fun doing it.
I teach digital arts through Adobe programs, such as Photoshop, Illustrator and Animate. This includes fundamentals of drawing, painting and digital design. I have a background in illustration and can provide many tools for art making that suits your individual needs and interests.
My professional painting experience began with scenic painting, which I did right after after college. This taught me how to really loosen up with painting and move fast through my process. During this time I began teaching students and volunteers how to paint and I have been hosting my own art classes ever since. I love sharing my expertise and seeing what my students accomplish.

For new students, I am first curious about their reason(s) for seeking online instruction. I address their goals and interests in the subject matter. Then we develop a lesson plan that gets them on track to pursuing these goals and interests. I am a great listener, I love sharing my expertise, and more importantly I care about my students' navigation toward success.
The majority of my students vary between middle school and high school age ranges, but I have teaching experience with younger children, adults, special needs and the elderly.
Be open to discuss what you seek to learn or get better at. I am in the field of art making, and often we have to address what truly interests you, inspires you, or really makes you curious. There is a difference in pursuing art for pleasure versus professionally, so be open to discussing your various goals, and I can help you decide which path is best for you.
I have a drawing student who has a lot of passion and talent, but still needs some structure in his fundamentals (such as understanding perspective and how to block the figure). I am excited to share that with our structured practice regime, he was able to improve within days! This is what excites me about teaching. Every student is unique and with tutoring, I get to address my student’s individual challenges, goals and interests. Everyone has a chance to excel.
