About Elizabeth
About me- a lifelong academic that loves science:
I'm a Ph.D. Neurobiologist (postdoctoral research fellow) at Harvard Medical School and an adjunct professor of Cell and Molecular Biology at Emmanuel College. I have a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine.
About you- an eager STEM student:
Students can range from middle school to high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels! We will work together to determine the proper pace for our sessions based on your skill level and the difficulty of the material. For us, no question is too hard (or too easy)!
When I was in school, I was always fascinated by the beauty of science yet also terrified by how difficult I thought it was to study. My goal is to make science approachable for students at all levels!
My mom is a professor! I've always looked up to educators and valued their ability to make complicated topics more accessible.
I am a Ph.D. level Cell and Molecular Biologist with 10+ years of graduate-level academic training. I have mentored undergraduate and graduate students 1 on 1 and taught freshman-level biology courses.
I'm looking forward to working with younger students (highschool and middle school ages) that are curious about STEM!

First, I'd like to know...
1) What class are you taking? 2) What is the scope of the work you'll be covering? 3) Which study materials have you been provided to work off of? and 4) Most importantly- what about the class do you find interesting, challenging, or impossible?
Once we begin regular sessions, they'll be in a "reverse classroom" format where I'll expect you to have read beforehand and come prepared to work on solving problems together. Ideally, we will work at the same pace as your regular class so you're always up-to-date.
I will do my best to accommodate your learning style. For example, I'm a visual-spatial learner- do you know what you are?
I've worked with high school, undergraduate, and grad level students from diverse backgrounds.
Hire someone you actually look forward to meeting with every time. You don't want these sessions to become a chore.
It's not recent- but I was thrilled to score a 5 on my AP Bio Exam!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Considering your class- how do you rate your understanding of the required material and, with guidance, do you think it can be improved? Good! You've come to the right place.
What type of learner do you think you are? Auditory, visual, verbal, etc.
Will you read/prepare for tutoring sessions on your own time if it's requested of you?
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I am a returning college student who has spent more than a few years out of the classroom. I was in need of a refresher in biology and Contacted Elizabeth for help. Not only did she deliver with a wide base of knowledge in biology, but she did so in such a warm and nonjudgmental manner that it actually made me excited to take my exams. I excelled in my class and would recommend her as a tutor to any new, or returning student who may need to brush up on a few things.

Since I'm available to tutor students at multiple stages in their education, I do have a sliding scale based on the academic rigor of our sessions. Think middle school < high school < undergrad < grad level. Prices range from $40-75/hr.
