About Barrett
I work in the prehospital, out-of-hospital, and transport medical envrionment. I enjoy mastering my craft, and I enjoy helping other providers get into the field, and become true clinicians in their own right.
I'm a full time paramedic and a sometimes firefighter.
I work for a hospital based EMS service that provides 911, interfacility, and critical care service.
In addition to working the truck, I'm member of our Special Rescue team, our ToxMedic team, and our Training Cadre at my primary agency, and member of the Training Cadre at my secondary agency.
AAS - Emergency Medical Technology, NR-P, BLS, ACLS, PHTLS, PALS, NRP
In addition to the normal alphabet classes above, I am also certified in Advanced Wilderness Life Support - AWLS for which I am also an instructor, Advanced HazMat Life Support - AHLS, Swift Water Rescue, High and Low Angle Rope Rescue, NAEMSE Instructor 1, and I precept for two local paramedic programs.
This translates to a whole host of skills and interests because my field touches many, many other fields and specialties: medicine, biology, anatomy & physiology, cardiology, resuscitation medicine, wilderness medicine, bushcraft and survival skills...
I enjoy the dynamic work. No two days are the same.
I've enjoyed teaching ride-alongs and new hires, and watching them grow as clinicians, so I ventured into education proper.
I've mentored since boy scout days wherein mentoring of younger scouts was incumbent in the path to Eagle Scout.
I've spent time as a firearms and a CWP instructor.

Typically, I'm precepting students for a local program, or I'm instructing employees within my organization.
Tutoring outside of that will be almost exclusively online via one sort of video conferencing service or another.
If you're local and need more help, we can discuss options on a case by case basis.
Process wise, because of the clinical aspect to the work we do, it's imperative that you learn how to research. So I'll try to provide you with as many educational resources as I can to help you find the root data. I'm here to try to help break stuff down, and help you get a handle on it.
Primarily adult learners who are already certified, or mostly through their education process.
You need to find someone who is trying to be better, someone who wants to be a clinician, not a skill monkey. If they aren't still trying to learn, adapt, research... then they aren't the one to help you.
When you stop learning, you start dying.
We recently revamped our onboarding process, which I've had a hand in guiding and designing, and I'm proud of the work our training cadre has done.
