About Luke
Besides being an experienced physicist and scientist, I have previous experience tutoring, teaching students who are non-native English speakers, and teaching online due to the Coronavirus
Rather than solve problems for the student or help them get by, my style is very much to challenge the student to grow their understanding of the subject
My previous work is a mixture of childcare, scientific research, and teaching/tutoring
My Research Advisor in College helped me see how I'm pretty good at explaining things in a way which people can learn from, good at helping them find their own understanding. From that I went on to tutor & teach the stuff I know best, physics & other STEM fields for the most part
my education is as a a scientist: physicist, mathematician, and computer scientist although I have taught a variety of STEM subjects
I've tutored for years, since my 2nd year of college
I've taught for 2 years, both in Shanghai, China. The first year was teaching Robotics, AP Biology, AP Computer Science, Anatomy/Physiology, and Astronomy to high school students at St. Paul American School Shanghai, an international school. My 2nd year teaching was AP Physics, Physics, and Physical Science with North America International School Shanghai. I was forced to resign b/c of Coronavirus
TEFL - Teaching English as a Foreign Language - served as an adequate teaching certificate to teach at international schools in China

After greetings we get right into it by helping the student break down what their goals for the subject are such as making a 5 on AP Physics
Once we have a good idea of what the objective is for the tutoring, we would move into diagnosing the student's strengths and weaknesses using practice tests
Once we know what the student is best and worst in within that subject we would quickly move on to reviewing weak spots, practicing problem solving moreso on trouble areas, and training the student in monitoring their own progress and envisioning their growth
