Gautam knows his subjects thoroughly, not only in the sense that he can apply a methodology but he can also understand why that methodology exists in the first place. On the surface this is a subtle distinction because one can still gain an A* grade without the latter but it does mean that he is able to explain a topic with incredible lucidity.

He taught me (a Classics student not having done Maths for two years) some basic differentiation and proof by induction in about ten minutes. Cool guy
