I taught a health class at a local junior college for 3 semesters. I loved researching the material and teaching it! When a position came open at a local university I applied and got the job.

understanding the student is important. Strategies for learning varies for students. I will assess needs, learn how the student learns best, then begin a plan to learn and retain the information.
Various types of students. Some students with a consistently strong academic performance and others who struggle to retain information. In each case, teaching the student how to learn and gaining confidence are keys to success.
Look for a teacher who has experience in the field of study and teaching strategies.
Last semester a student came to me after she performed poorly on her first 2 tests. She asked if I could help her. After some practical application and a slight change in strategy lead to her receiving a B in the class. Her excitement was rewarding.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Talking to teachers early in the semester is helpful. Try and figure out what is not working. Is it the understanding of the material or a problem with test taking? If the student does not know, the teacher should be able to help.
