About Barbra
Hi! I'm a licensed teacher who offers one-on-one customized acting sessions in an online setting (with zero Covid risk). I was a professional actor for 20 years so I bring a lot of experience to my teaching. I have been nominated and garnered multiple awards for my acting and I even helped run a theatre company in Denver, Colorado for 12 years. I have my Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with an emphasis in both acting and directing and I have my Masters in Teaching with a K-12 Theatre Arts Endorsement and CTE Theatre Arts certification. I started a theatre program at a middle school from the ground up. I have directed two professional productions and nine student productions.
I enjoy meeting my students, getting to know them, and helping them accomplish their individual and unique acting goals. Watching my students grow as performers is incredibly exciting... plus, we have a lot of fun!
Teaching was a 2nd career for me. I started volunteering at my sons' school and fell in love with working with kids, so I went back to university to get my Masters in Teaching and voila! I became a teacher.
I was a professional actor for 20-years in Colorado, Pennsylvania, Chicago, and New York. I also have my BA in Theatre Arts and my Masters in Teaching. I completed an apprenticeship with New York Stage and Film Company as well as a competitive master class with Tony Award Winner, Rondi Reed, at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago. I also helped run Paragon Theatre Company in Denver for 12 years as a creative ensemble member where I acted in 13 of their productions. I've also taught various acting classes at the Arvada Center for the Arts, Northglenn Theatre, and BackStory Theatre. I was represented by a film talent agent, Radical Artists Agency (RAA) under the stage name Barbra Andrews for five years where I did regional commercials.

First, we discuss their goal. Are they preparing for an audition? Do they want to get better at a certain accent? Do they want to build their monologue knowledge? Do they want to get more familiar with improv?
Once we set their goal - we start our sessions. I teach 30-minute sessions online. During the session we: 1) Do a guided warm-up, 2) Work on goal, 3) Set rehearsal or practice homework up, 4) Set intention for next time we meet.
I've worked with ages 4 through 21. I've taught general core classes to Kindergarten and 1st graders. I've taught acting classes and private lessons to ages 11 through 21.
Make sure it's a good fit for you. You will learn best from the teacher you connect with the most. Also, make sure they are qualified and have experience in the professional field of theatre so that the information they give you is both authentic and accurate... and not just in theory or from a textbook.
My student's production of "Dress Rehearsal for Murder" - it was the inaugral production at our middle school since they were founded in 1965! The students ran the entire show (tech, crew, design, and actors) - and they did an INCREDIBLE job. They received standing ovations both performances.
