I don't know where I would be without MTC! I started classes and productions at age 13, where I learned that my passion could be a profession. The incredible staff including Jim, Kevin, and Deb taught me that it was possible to achieve my dreams and they were there every step of the way. The College Bound in the Performing Arts program was the best decision I ever made. Jim and Kevin, and the rest of the staff trained me and taught me the most valuable information about what it meant to be a performer and turned a shy girl with no direction and turned her into a confident artist. They helped me through auditions to go on to participate in incredible Summer Programs and to find my dream school, Muhlenberg College where I am a rising senior theatre major and dance minor. I learned every aspect of theatre that I could at MTC because of the amazing support, and have found my love for teaching theatre through working with Deb Levy! I am where I am because of MTC, and I am so grateful to have the amazing people behind it in my life!

I loved how encouraging and knowledgeable they were. There was never a time when I doubted my abilities when working with them. Music Theatre Of Connecticut gave me the tools and the confidence to become the actor I am today, and their work ethic and expertise are unparalleled in a business that is so hard to navigate. Jim Schilling and Kevin Connors are both excellent teachers at MTC. I worked with them while I was in the process of auditioning to colleges; without them, I wouldn’t have known where to start in the college process.
Academic careers get a lot of attention from high school counselors, but I was getting no help from my high school regarding the performing arts. Although I was disappointed, I did some research, and was able to find an outside resource to give me the help I needed, and that was MTC. They helped me to narrow down a list of colleges I wanted to audition to based on my desires of location of the university and major. They kept track with me of the dates of my application deadlines and when all of my auditions were, helped me to record my audition tapes, bring a photographer in to update my headshots, and even stayed connected with me through the auditions as well.
I feel as though my time at MTC was very personalized. If I needed more work with my monologues, I would go to more lessons with Jim, and if I needed more work with my songs, then I would go to more lessons with Kevin. I felt as though both of them really cared about my improvement with the goal in mind that I be prepared for my college auditions. With the help of Jim and Kevin, I got accepted to AMDA University in Los Angeles, CA; my top school! I would highly recommend going to MTC for lessons in singing and acting. The environment is very friendly, and their feedback is extremely useful. I have absolutely no complaints, going to MTC was exactly the help I needed. Whether you’re about to go through the college process, or simply need to brush up on skills, MTC is surely the place to go to.

I think that they allow actors to be creative with their work and are able to let them explore themselves. Giving them the chance to reach their full potential while also guiding them in the right direction. Whenever I see a show at MTC I am amazed by the production team. The story is always rich and genuine and it is definitely a great place to grow as an actor.

Working with Music Theatre of Connecticut was a blessing for a young actor. I found that I would get worked up over which theories, techniques, or schools of thought generate the best results on stage. MTC provided me with the approach of “everything can be useful, be a craftsman; the more tools you have the better off you’ll be.” Not only was the work challenging and creatively stimulating, the interpersonal relationships with my teachers are lifelong bonds that cannot be broken. A young actor needs to feel safe when exploring the craft and MTC provided that home for me. I’ll never forget the simple yet effective words: “You are enough, have fun and fly.”
