extraordinary educators I have encountered-- both in my professional work as a
rabbi/educator, and in my personal experience as a parent.

Ms. Hassan has the uncanny ability not only to educate students, but also to thoroughly transform them in the process. She sees who her students are, both as learners and as people, and she reaches out to each student according to where they are and how they need to grow.

When I first took a tour of the Clinton School for Writers and Artists, there was one
classroom that stood out: Ms. Hassan’s class. Hers was not only a classroom, but also a laboratory for transformational change. She created a project called “Inspirational
Voices,” where students bring to life a person who has inspired them in their lives.

I thought, if a school can nourish a teacher this extraordinary, then this is the school I want my child to attend. When I became a parent at the school, I was able to witness the “Inspirational Voices” project firsthand. Both the process—which involves writing, drama, research, personal reflection, and improvisation, and the product —an extraordinary evening where 33 “Inspirational Voices” come to life through their pre-teen counterparts--are incredibly powerful to behold.

Ms. Hassan is a leader in her field, quietly making change and touching students’ lives each and every day. I can not imagine anyone more deserving of a week at the Cullman Center Institute for Teachers. I can assure you, you will find an educator of unique passion, creativity, and wisdom.
