About Tomos
I want to teach because music has been an important part of my life for many years, and I would like to help others experience the same enjoyment and confidence that playing an instrument has given me.
I achieved Grade 8 on the tenor horn and Grade 6 Music Theory, and throughout my musical journey I have played in both primary and secondary school bands as well as my local town band. These experiences helped me develop not only as a musician but also as part of a team.
I understand that learning an instrument can sometimes be challenging, and there were periods when I enjoyed playing more than others. Through those experiences, I learnt how important encouragement, support, and enjoyable music are for staying motivated and making progress.
I enjoy helping others develop new skills and gain confidence in their abilities. Whether a student wants to play for fun, join a band, or work towards music exams, I aim to create a positive and enjoyable learning environment that helps them achieve their goals and develop a lasting appreciation for music.

My lessons are tailored to each student’s goals, ability, and musical interests. Throughout my own musical journey, there were periods when I really enjoyed playing and periods when I didn’t enjoy it as much. Looking back, I found that when I wasn’t enjoying playing, it was often because I was practising music that didn’t interest me or wasn’t challenging me in the right way.
Because of this, I believe learning an instrument should be enjoyable as well as educational. While developing good technique and musical skills is important, I also aim to include music that students genuinely enjoy playing. I have found that students make the most progress when they are motivated and having fun.
I understand that every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching style to suit each individual. Some students benefit from a structured approach, while others learn best through practical playing and exploration. My aim is to create lessons that keep students engaged, build their confidence, and help them achieve their personal goals.
Whether you are a complete beginner or have previous experience, lessons will be adapted to suit your needs. I can help with learning the fundamentals, improving technique, preparing for exams, building confidence, or simply developing a love of music and playing in bands.
