About Laura
After completing my Master's in Teaching Mathematics, I taught both adult education and youth sector math and science for several years. In that time I had the opportunity to pilot new curriculum initiatives, create teaching materials, introduce technology projects and apply for funding.
Later in my career I was employed as an evaluation consultant, working with teams of teachers to produce provincial evaluation situations (Quebec) in mathematics.
I have also been tutoring math for more than 20 years now. I love connecting with my students and being part of their success stories.

I believe learning should be student-centered. I use Scaffolding (breaking down learning into smaller chunks) to meet my students where they are and help them grow to where they want to be. I also use Socratic questioning to guide student thinking.
In a typical lesson, after meeting a student, we talk about their current math topic of interest. I will ask some orienting questions to get a sense of the student's level of understanding, and then we will work through questions together for the balance of the lesson.
I enjoy working with students of all ages. I am comfortable working with small children, but have more experience working with teens and adults from arithmetic to calculus and everything in between.
