About Heather
I graduated with a BA in English in 1995, summa cum laude (which should be italicized, but this window doesn't allow that). That means I had a 4.0. I won the highest academic honors at my university, Outstanding English Graduate of the Year, and Eagle Scholar. I was pursuing graduate education, with a teaching assistantship, when life changed directions for me. Since then, I have taught my own children all subjects, K-12, graduating 3 students, 2 now attending college on their universities' highest tier academic scholarships. I have taught in an online school, and also taught high school courses in group settings in history, with an emphasis on writing, and English literature.

I love to work one-on-one with students to challenge and broaden their understanding of literature and how the big ideas affect their lives, using the best writing as a model to help each student improve in her own writing. I believe this approach works at all levels, from early readers to college students. I love to dig deep and challenge and explain concepts, while meeting each individual at his level and expanding from there. I don't want to give drills, but deepen understanding and the practice of thinking better and writing better. AI may be able to write a document, but no one can do your thinking for you. Writing is the best expression of working through one's own thoughts and formulating them into shared meaning.
