About Lucy
I am a professional violist currently completing a Master’s degree in Music Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. I am originally from Ireland, where I trained at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and Trinity College Dublin, and performed regularly in orchestral and ensemble settings, including with groups such as the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, the Irish Baroque Orchestra and the Irish Studio Orchestra.
I am a member of the award-winning Vita String Quartet, who received a scholarship for the Centre for Ensemble Excellence at Trinity Laban in London. We are the ensemble in residence at the Norwegian Church Arts Centre in Cardiff Bay and deliver music workshops in schools across the Wye Valley area. We have played in London for BBC drama launches and at festivals throughout the UK, reflecting a strong commitment to both performance and outreach work.
Alongside performing, I have a strong passion for teaching and have experience working in both private tuition and school settings, including South Dublin Music School and Sandford Park Secondary School. I enjoy working with students of all ages and levels, and I aim to make music lessons accessible, positive and enjoyable. I believe music theory should feel connected to real music-making rather than abstract rules, and I strive to create a relaxed and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and building confidence at their own pace.

I offer engaging and supportive music lessons in viola, violin and music theory, tailored to each student’s individual needs and goals. I am currently completing a Master’s in Music Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, and hold a Bachelor’s degree from the Royal Irish Academy of Music as well as a teaching diploma from Trinity College Dublin. Whether you are a beginner, preparing for exams, or simply want to improve your instrumental or theoretical understanding, I can help break down complex concepts in a clear and practical way. As a professional violist with orchestral experience, I bring a strong practical perspective to both performance & theory, helping students connect what they learn to the music they play. I have experience teaching in Dublin music schools and privately, working with students of all ages and levels, from children to adult learners. I aim to create a friendly and supportive learning environment with clear communication, and I focus on building confidence, strong foundations, and real musical understanding in every session.

Lucy taught my teenage daughter the violin and viola and was an amazing teacher, always patient and encouraging. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her. She is very knowledgeable and knew many exercises and studies to help my daughter improve and fix some technical issues. She was great at musicianship too and prepared my daughter for her grade exams. She was totally reliable and very generous with her time.
