About Emily

I grew up bilingual and have been learning new languages ever since. I started tutoring when I was completing my A-levels and have never stopped!
I love spreading an interest in languages and am keen to help all ages and levels improve their skills in modern languages.

About the lesson

I have 10 years of tutoring experience and have been a teacher of modern languages for over 5 years. I like to place communication at the centre of my lessons and to include all 4 main skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing. I am a strong believer in grammar as a the basis of good language learning and this heavily informs my practice, with grammar lessons interspersed in topic and skills teaching. I regularly use translation as a way of testing vocabulary and grammar retention, as well as understanding of texts in the foreign language. I am flexible and am happy to adapt my teaching practice to the needs of any of my students. I have taught everything from Business German to adults, to French for fun to children. Get in touch!

Emily helped me when I was working towards my Spanish GCSE. We started with Skype sessions where I would send her my work beforehand and we would go through it during the session, picking topics to focus on. We then did more specific grammar lessons on tenses that I struggled with and she also helped me revise vocabulary. She was flexible about when we should Skype and we also met in person a few times. I'm really happy that she helped me get up to an A* at GCSE - I even chose Spanish at A-level!
