About Karan
Music has been an important part of my life for over 13 years, and I enjoy sharing that passion through teaching tabla. I strive to create lessons that are welcoming, engaging, and suited to each student's individual learning style, helping them develop confidence from the very first lesson.
I understand that every student progresses at a different pace, so I focus on providing clear guidance, regular encouragement, and achievable goals. Whether you are learning tabla as a complete beginner, looking to reconnect with the instrument, or aiming to improve your existing skills, lessons are adapted to help you reach your objectives.
My teaching combines traditional tabla techniques with a practical, hands-on approach, ensuring students not only learn compositions and rhythms but also understand how they fit into the wider world of music. I place a strong emphasis on developing good technique and a solid rhythmic foundation that students can build upon over time.
Lessons are one hour long, taught in person, and are suitable for students aged 7 and above. I am committed to maintaining a professional and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making progress, and enjoying their musical journey.

I take a patient, structured, and personalised approach to teaching tabla, ensuring that each lesson is tailored to the student's age, experience level, and goals. Whether a student is learning for personal enjoyment, cultural enrichment, examinations, or performance, I adapt my teaching style to suit their needs.
Lessons focus on building strong foundations in rhythm, hand technique, posture, and understanding of tabla bols (syllables). As students progress, I introduce more advanced compositions, accompaniment skills, improvisation, and performance techniques. I believe in combining practical playing with an understanding of rhythm theory to help students develop confidence and musicality.
Each lesson is typically 1 hour long and delivered in person. I provide clear demonstrations, guided practice, and constructive feedback to help students improve at a comfortable pace.
I have 13 years of tabla-playing experience and have performed and learnt within Indian classical music traditions. My experience enables me to teach students effectively while maintaining an enjoyable and encouraging learning environment.
Lessons are suitable for students aged 7 and above, from complete beginners to those with previous tabla experience who wish to further develop their skills. No prior musical knowledge is required for beginners.
