About Lorraine
Hi, I'm a PhD researcher specialising in child and maternal health through a sociological lens. My academic background is broad and research-driven: I hold a Master's degree in Global Political Economy and an undergraduate degree in Politics and International Relations, providing a strong interdisciplinary foundation in sociology, economics, and political studies.
This combination of academic training and hands-on research experience means I don't just teach theory; I bring real insight into how sociological concepts apply to current issues, policy, and lived experience. I have experience teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students, and I take pride in making complex ideas clear, engaging, and genuinely useful for exam success, essay writing, or dissertation work.
Whether you're new to sociology or refining advanced research and argumentation skills, you can expect patient, structured, and professional support tailored to your goals.

My approach to tutoring is rooted in the belief that sociology is best learnt through active discussion and meaningful engagement. I prioritise breaking complex theories down into everyday, accessible examples, encouraging students to ask questions and challenge ideas. Critical thinking is central to my sessions: rather than simply learning definitions, students learn to construct and defend their own arguments.
I recognise that each learner is unique, including those who are neurodivergent, and tailor my teaching methods and lesson pace to individual needs. This might involve using visual aids, structured checklists, or alternative formats for complex topics, ensuring that everyone can access and enjoy learning. Whether a student prefers focused theory review, practice with essay structure, or exploring areas of special interest, I adapt flexibly to support their progress.
Lessons are typically 60–90 minutes long, allowing enough time to explore concepts in depth while maintaining engagement. I am flexible with lesson length to accommodate varying levels of concentration or preferred pacing, especially for neurodivergent students.
I am a PhD researcher and a Master’s graduate with extensive experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Lessons are designed for undergraduate and postgraduate students in sociology or related fields, as well as A-level students seeking a strong foundation for future study.
