About Cassandra
I have a Master's degree in History from California State University, Sacramento (CSUS). I focused on U.S. History and World History. I have also studied African, Modern Chinese, Modern Japanese, and WWII histories. I also have a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certificate from CSUS. I am well educated and will research new areas to help any of my students.
While in the graduate program at California State University, Sacramento I worked as a Supplemental Instructor for the Peer and Academic Resource Center. I ran classes that reinforced content taught by lecturers at the college level. Students enjoyed my class and saw improvements in their study habits, writing, and exams. I was given an award for my dedication to my students. I have also graded for several professors, making assignments and rubrics. An important goal was making sure students understood the expectations of the assignment and making sure they were fairly graded for their work.
I have been invited to guest lecture several times by different professors at CSUS. Each class was eager to ask questions and found my lectures informative and enjoyable.

My goal is to work with my students to find a way to make learning fun and effective. Working together is how we build the skills they need to learn anything they want.
I like to use a variety of tools, including visual aids and scaffolding techniques. I encourage students to make connections between new ideas and what they have already experienced. Students in my classroom are always encouraged to share their interests and culture so that we can find connections that will make learning more fun for them.
My classes start with a warm up exercise that builds on the activity or content we are exploring for that day. I like to build activities for students that allow them to physically engage with the material. I build in questions to help them find a direction to the assignment or expand on the content. Then I end most classes with a short exercise designed to summarize what we did for the day. I have found this works really well with students of all ages.
My lessons are primarily for students in high school or college. I can tutor most college history, social studies, and sociology. I am happy to assist younger students with reading, writing, and social studies.
