About Ivan
Hi! I’m Ivan, and I’ve been fascinated by how things work and how people learn for as long as I can remember. You know that feeling when you get to share super exciting news with a friend and watch their face light up with a mix of excitement and disbelief? That’s what teaching feels like for me. Every time a student gives me that look—realizing it really is that simple, seeing they can actually pass that test, discovering that an Arduino can really do that, or realizing a project they thought was impossible actually works—I get to share my love for learning in real time, and it never gets old. From tutoring classmates in high school to teaching robotics and engineering at UCSD, I’ve spent years helping students navigate challenging concepts and complete projects they thought were impossible. My approach focuses on finding what you don’t yet understand, working together to make it click, and testing your understanding with real challenges, so you gain the tools to learn independently in the future. I specialize in robotics, engineering, and mathematics at any level—from middle school through undergraduate—but what really drives me is helping students unlock their curiosity and experience the excitement of learning for themselves.

I love helping students solve problems while learning how to learn. My approach focuses on finding what you don’t yet understand, then working together to make it click, so that you could even explain it to someone else. We then test that understanding with edge-case problems, highlighting the most important ideas to remember and apply in the future.
Lessons are hands-on, interactive, and project-driven, no matter the subject—robotics, engineering, or mathematics. A typical session starts with your questions, then we explore the core concepts together, followed by practical challenges to solidify your understanding, finished with what you can do next on your own.
I tailor lessons to any level—from middle school through undergraduate and beyond. What sets me apart is my passion for learning and teaching, and my focus on giving students the tools and strategies to tackle future problems independently, not just the ones at hand.

Perfect! Ivan has been a huge help with my project and I couldn't do it without him. He tailors the way he teaches based on what I know and how I like to learn. He gives me the support I need while still letting me figure things out on my own. If I run into a problem, he explains it in a clear and understandable way, which makes it much easier to keep going. His guidance has really helped me make substantial progress.

I would recommend Ivan as a tutor to anyone who wants to learn because he is super patient. He works really hard to find a bunch of different ways to explain something until he finds what makes sense to you. He isn’t like other teachers who say that that’s the way it is so you just have to learn it. He always helps me understand why things are the way they are!
