About Josef
Hello! My name is Joe and I'm based in Bristol, UK. I have extensive experience in geospatial analysis and remote sensing, particularly in the fields of conservation, disaster management and natural hazards mapping.
I have almost 10 years of work experience working across the humanitarian, international development and environmental sectors. Currently I work at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as the GIS Impact Assessment Specialist for their global Emergencies and Resilience office.
Prior to this, I worked with IMPACT Initiatives working on remote sensing for emergencies and risk in Tunisia, Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia and Ukraine. In addition, I've worked for 2 years at the Zoological Society of London's conservation programmes, as well as 1 year at COOPI in Malawi on disaster management. In addition, I have completed short stints with volcano monitoring centres in Mexico and Ecuador.
I have developed 2 online courses in remote sensing and GIS for conservation, which are integrated into wildlife management diplomas at the Wildlife Research and Training Institute in Kenya and are also available on Udemy.
I provide tutoring in GIS and remote sensing (including ArcGIS Pro, QGIS and Google Earth Engine), especially for natural hazards and disaster risk management at degree and adult / consultant level.
With a degree In Physical Geography and a masters in Geophysical Hazards, I am also well placed to tutor geography (especially physical) and geology in relation to natural hazards, at degree level.
In addition to tutoring, I can complete GIS and remote sensing projects to a specified brief on demand.
