About Emma

I became a teacher because I saw first-hand how a lack of support can affect a child's confidence, enjoyment of learning and belief in their own abilities. It made me realise the importance of having someone who not only helps children academically but also encourages, supports and believes in them, whatever challenges they may be facing both in and out of school.

This is something I carry into every lesson I teach. I believe that when children feel supported and confident, they are much more willing to ask questions, embrace challenges and reach their full potential. My goal is to create a positive, encouraging environment where every child feels valued, understood and capable of succeeding.

As a qualified Primary Teacher (QTS), I have experience teaching across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, tutoring children from Reception to Year 6 in all primary subjects, and supporting students with GCSE English. I have also worked extensively with children with SEND, adapting my teaching to meet individual learning needs and helping each child make meaningful progress at their own pace.

Outside of teaching, I have always loved learning and being creative, particularly through reading. I always have a book on the go, and I enjoy how fiction takes me into new worlds, broadens my imagination and helps me see different perspectives. It also deepens the way I think about language and ideas, which naturally feeds into my teaching. I bring this same curiosity and enjoyment of learning into my lessons, with the aim of helping students not only improve academically, but also begin to enjoy learning for themselves.

For me, tutoring is about much more than improving grades. It's about helping children build confidence, develop independence and enjoy learning, so they leave each lesson believing in themselves and what they can achieve.

I am a qualified Primary Teacher (QTS) with experience teaching and tutoring children from Reception to Year 6 across all primary subjects, as well as tutoring GCSE English. I have worked with pupils of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and tailor every lesson to meet each child's individual needs, learning style and goals.

Throughout my teaching career, I have taught in classrooms with a wide range of learning needs, supporting children with various SEND, behavioural and additional educational needs. Alongside my classroom experience, I have tutored and homeschooled children with SEND, adapting my teaching approach to ensure every child feels supported, understood and able to reach their full potential. I believe every child can succeed when they are taught in a way that works for them.

My approach is centred around building confidence as well as academic progress. I firmly believe that confidence is the foundation of successful learning. When children believe in themselves, they become more willing to ask questions, embrace challenges and persevere when they find something difficult. This not only leads to greater academic progress but also helps them develop a genuine enjoyment of learning.

I create a calm, supportive and encouraging environment where mistakes are seen as an important part of learning. Every lesson is carefully tailored to the individual student, using engaging activities, clear explanations and interactive teaching strategies to keep learning enjoyable and effective. Whether your child needs support closing learning gaps, preparing for SATs, improving their Maths or English, developing confidence, or extending their learning, I adapt each lesson to suit their pace, interests and goals.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, although shorter sessions can be arranged for younger children where appropriate. I provide regular feedback, celebrate every achievement and ensure pupils leave each lesson feeling more confident and capable than when they arrived.

Alongside my primary teaching experience, I also tutor GCSE English. Having achieved an A* in A Level English Literature and Language, I have a strong understanding of both English Language and English Literature. I support students in developing analytical skills, exploring texts in depth, structuring high-quality exam responses and building the confidence needed to succeed in GCSE examinations. My aim is not simply to improve grades, but to help students develop the critical thinking and communication skills that will benefit them far beyond their exams.

Having taught across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, including mixed-age classes, my experience as both a classroom teacher and tutor enables me to quickly identify areas where children need support and provide engaging, personalised teaching that helps them make meaningful progress.

Above all, my goal is to help every student believe in their own ability. Whether I am supporting a Reception child with early reading, preparing a Year 6 pupil for SATs, or helping a GCSE English student master exam technique and text analysis, I strive to create lessons that are engaging, encouraging and tailored to the individual.
