About Yan Yan
I’ve always been passionate about communication, which is what led me to study Mass Communication and eventually start teaching Mandarin. Over the past 3 years, I’ve worked closely with students in private lessons, and I’ve found that what I enjoy most is helping people gain the confidence to actually use the language in real life.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy conversations, observing how people communicate in different situations, and finding ways to make learning more relatable and less stressful. I try to bring that same energy into my lessons, keeping them relaxed, supportive and focused on real progress.
For me, teaching isn’t just about language, it’s about helping you feel confident enough to express yourself.

I focus on practical, real-life Mandarin that students can immediately use in everyday situations, whether at work, while traveling, or in social settings. My lessons emphasize building confidence in speaking, while strengthening listening and reading skills naturally along the way.
Teaching Techniques & Methodology
I use a communicative, student-centered approach.
- Lessons are conversation-driven, with guided practice based on real-life scenarios (e.g., ordering food, meetings, daily conversations).
- I incorporate role-plays, repetition, and situational dialogues to reinforce speaking and listening.
= Reading materials are short, practical, and relevant (messages, menus, simple work-related texts).
- I adjust pacing and content based on each student’s goals and progress.
- I focus on useful vocabulary and sentence structures rather than memorization of complex grammar.
Lesson Structure (60 mins)
- A typical lesson is structured to maximize active use of the language:
10 mins: Review and warm-up conversation
20 mins: Introduction of new vocabulary or topic
20 mins: Speaking practice through role play and guided conversation
10 mins: Recap, feedback, tips for improvement
Qualifications & Experience
I hold a degree in Mass Communication, which has strengthened my skills in clear communication and effective teaching. I have been teaching private Mandarin lessons for 3 years, working closely with students to improve their confidence and fluency in real-life situations.
