About Zara
I hold a Ph.D in Medical Biochemistry and PCGHE (post-graduate) teaching qualification from the University of Kent. I have six years teaching experience at University level (University of Bristol and University of Kent) and six years experience working as a tutor. Having worked as a research scientist for many years, I have both a theoretical and practical understanding of the sciences - this perspective is something my students find invaluable, as it helps them understand how science in the textbook links to everyday life and technological advances. I teach AQA, OCR A OCR B and Edexcel SNAB exam boards, and have a bank of past exam question papers that I go through with the student at the end of each topic. I am an examiner with AQA, and in the past have worked as an examiner with Edexcel & OCR A. This experience has given me a chance to delve deeper into the exam marking system. I will give you exam-board specific tips on how best to phrase your answer to match the mark scheme requirements. I come across as a friendly and motivated teacher. Tutoring takes place in a relaxed but goal-oriented atmosphere. I strongly believe that negative barriers with studies can be turned into positive outcomes with correct guidance and motivation. Many of my past students have gone on to achieve top marks in GCSE and A-levels, and pursued successful careers. I specialise in one-to-one private tuition in Chemistry and Biology for students at A-level and University. I also tutor Biology and Biochemistry up to University level (including A-level), and Chemistry up to first year University level. I can also help with GCSE Biology and Chemistry. Cancellation Policy: I operate a strict 72 h no-refund cancellation policy once lessons are booked - this ensures that I don`t have empty slots when there are other students on the waiting list. Tailored lessons in Biology and Chemistry. For all exam boards at A Level, including AQA, OCR A, OCR B, Edexcel A Biology (SNAB), Edexcel Chemistry and WJEC. Lessons are designed to foster deeper understanding of a topic, and develop confidence with exam questions. Each topic is accompanied by a past paper question set, which we will go through during the lesson. Each question set is marked according to the exam board style - I have over 10 years marking experience with the exam boards, and also have been involved in setting papers. I also highlight keywords and phrases during the lesson, and can point you in the direction of good revision resources. I can also help with planning and structuring revision. Many of my students see a rapid improvement in grades after a few months of regular tutoring.
