My teaching approach is structured, communicative, and focused on helping students build real confidence in Russian from the very beginning. I use TPRS alongside spaced repetition techniques to support long-term language acquisition and retention. Rather than relying heavily on rote memorisation, my lessons emphasise meaningful input, storytelling, and guided conversation. New vocabulary and grammar are introduced in context, then recycled regularly in different ways to ensure it becomes natural and easy to recall over time.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, although shorter or longer sessions can be arranged depending on the learner’s age, goals, and level of experience.
My lessons are suitable for:
- Complete beginners in Russian
- GCSE and A-Level students (where applicable)
- Adult learners studying Russian for travel, interest, or personal development
- Learners who want to improve speaking, listening, reading, and vocabulary retention
I aim to create a supportive and structured learning environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and steadily progressing towards fluency.

Ben has been tutoring me in Spanish since October last year, taking me from a total beginner to a level where I’m ready to take a GCSE.
In short, he has been great, adapting his lessons to my needs and being flexible around my changing working hours.
10/10 would recommend.I've known Ben for over 10 years and his enthusiasm for teaching never fades. Always answering my questions with care and making difficult topics engaging.
He genuinely cares about my learning and is patient with me as I navigate through the lessons and has helped me improve my Spanish skills considerably! Would recommend Ben to anyone!Ben taught my son Spanish for a year in school. He was truly inspirational for my son and helped progress his Spanish to a very high level. We were devastated when he left the school but since then he has also tutored my son for his GCSE Russian exam this year. He massively improved his confidence going into the exam. And hopefully we will catch up in the future for A level Russian tutoring….alongside some music chatter! I would definitely recommend Ben 100%.
Ben tutored our 16-year-old for his Russian GCSE. Noah really benefited from the one-to-one time and extra experience. Ben sent voice notes for Noah to listen to and learn from at the end of each session. His confidence grew considerably.
