About Leah
My name is Leah and, when I grow up, I’d like to change the lives of young people. No… wait! Apparently I’m already an adult, how did that happen?! Luckily, I am very fortunate to have been working with children and young people with a wide range of needs, including SEND (specialising in ASD and ADHD), SEMH needs (including anxiety, low mood and EBSA) and behavioural difficulties. I also have experience working with young people facing permanent exclusions from mainstream schools and looked after children and take pride in my consistent and gentle approach towards all, no matter what behaviours are communicating with me. Whilst my experience lies within the SEND sector, my skill set is perfect for any young person who needs a boost or values having a caring and supportive adult on their team. I always swore to become the adult I needed when I was a child and I don’t intend to ever stop striving to achieve this goal.

It’s a proven fact that we don’t learn when we are feeling anxious, worried or stressed so my focus is on supporting through the emotions and working at the student’s pace academically to build confidence and destroy barriers to learning. I start every session with a feelings check-in and incorporate meditation and mindfulness whenever needed. Academics come naturally when our brains are calm and comfortable, which is why I always aim to make sessions as enjoyable as possible (rather than just providing worksheets - boring!).
