About Floyd
Kia ora, I'm Floyd!
I've spent many years as a musician, having taught myself piano at the age of thirteen, and gradually moving onto more instruments (guitar, drums, bass, and vocals) and eventually songwriting.
Music is my one true passion, and I adore teaching it. I love the idea that I can spread the passion and joy I have for music to other people.
I am sometimes discouraged by the music education scene, however. Far too many times I have seen students begin to see learning music as a chore due to strict traditional teachers and a curriculum focused too heavily on theory and classical music. To me, learning music should be all about expression. However you want to express yourself through music (classical, jazz, songwriting, just having fun learning a few things) should be how you are taught it, which is why I cater my lessons to the individual rather than taking an overall approach to my lesson planning.
I teach piano, drums, guitar, bass, and songwriting at multiple schools around Wellington, and when I'm not doing that, I also do music therapy for various clients.
As a dedicated and passionate professional musician, I bring a wealth of unique experience and skill to the music education field. With strong hands-on experience in various professional music settings, I am well-equipped to provide exceptional education and music therapy.

Having spent multiple years as a music teacher for various Wellington schools, and even longer as a local musician, I believe strongly that music lessons should be about evoking a passion for music rather than drilling scales and cramming for exams.
My lessons are always catered towards the individual, with a curriculum and program tailor-made for you. We will discuss your goals and aspirations with music (whether that be anything from learning the chords to your favourite songs on guitar and piano, to learning how to write your own songs and perform on stage), and I will adapt and design a syllabus just for you!
My lessons are for anyone of any age and level, and lesson times can be customizable to meet the needs of the student (with a minimum of thirty minutes).
