About Clay
My name is Clay, and I am a dedicated and well-trained coach with a strong academic foundation in Physical Education and hands-on experience teaching and mentoring students from early childhood through high school. With classroom and coaching experience at respected schools such as Bronx High School of Science, PS 24, Fieldston, and InTech Academy, I bring a proven ability to teach diverse learners, create structured and engaging lessons, and build positive, respectful relationships with students and athletes. My approach is grounded in both my educational training and my personal philosophy: every student is capable of growth when they feel supported, understood, and challenged with purpose. I believe in teaching the whole athlete—helping them improve their skills, confidence, and mindset through guided practice, constructive feedback, and self-reflection. These beliefs come not only from my academic studies, but from my lifelong background as a successful multi-sport athlete and teammate. Above all, I am committed to helping athletes discover their full potential—physically, mentally, and personally. My goal is to create an environment where students feel safe, encouraged, and proud of their progress, no matter their starting point.

My Approach as a Tutor and Coach
As a tutor and multi-sport coach, I focus on creating a positive, motivating, and athlete-centered learning environment. My teaching approach blends my academic background in Physical Education, my hands-on experience coaching lacrosse, basketball, and multi-sport programs, and my philosophy that learning happens best when students feel supported, understood, and capable of growth. I believe every athlete has a unique “current reality,” and part of my job is helping them identify where they are, where they want to go, and what steps will help them get there.
Teaching Method and Techniques
My coaching is grounded in clear communication, modeling, and individualized feedback. I combine differentiated instruction—something I practiced extensively in K–12 classrooms—with sport-specific skill progressions that meet players at their level. Whether working with beginners or more advanced athletes, I emphasize proper technique, intentional repetition, and positive reinforcement. My philosophy draws on self-reflection: I regularly ask athletes to evaluate their own performance, set goals, and reflect on daily habits that influence their physical and mental growth.
A Typical Lesson Plan
A standard session begins with a dynamic warm-up and movement preparation that sets athletes up for success. From there, we focus on one or two key skills for the day—such as shooting fundamentals, footwork patterns, defensive positioning, or game awareness—using drills that gradually increase in complexity. I always include opportunities for guided practice, small-sided play, and real-time correction. We end each lesson with reflection: what went well, what challenged them, and what goals we are setting for next time. This structure builds confidence, consistency, and long-term improvement.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
What truly sets me apart is my combination of academic training, athletic experience, and a deep commitment to student success. Through placements at Bronx High School of Science, PS 24, Fieldston Schools, and multiple camps, I have taught students from ages 5–18 and adapted to a wide range of learning needs. My coaching philosophy is rooted in ethics, motivation, and personal growth—as shaped by both my family of educators and my own competitive sports background. I see teaching and coaching as opportunities to change students’ perspectives, build character, and help them discover strengths they didn’t know they had. I bring strong leadership, patience, and an encouraging presence that athletes respond to.
