About Elmar

Greetings! I am an experienced teacher/tutor in the field of mathematics. I have 15 years of school, college, and private tutoring experience of working with children and adults, in-person and online. I specialize in standardized test preparation (SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE, and many more).

Most of all in my work, I enjoy helping my students understand difficult mathematical concepts. It is a delight to see students learn and understand math, make progress, and tackle challenging problems on their own.

I started tutoring in mathematics while studying in college. It was then that I realized how much of a difference I was making in my students' understanding of and appreciating math. It soon became a part-time job, and ever since I have totally enjoyed teaching mathematics!

I give my students more than just the content — I teach my students good study habits, organizational skills, and test-taking strategies, all the while making the learning process as interesting and engaging as possible. I also help students with competition-type mathematical problems.

About the lesson

My teaching methodology is all about conceptual understanding (can you explain a msthematical idea in simple words?), not just procedural thinking (rote memorizations and application of formulas).

A typical lesson follows the "I do, We do, You do" approach, but I adjust the organization, format, and pace of my lessons based on my students' needs.
