About Simon
I hold undergraduate and master’s degrees in mathematics and theoretical physics from the University of St Andrews in Scotland, and have a PhD in Physics at WITS in the works. I have further qualifications in Computer Science from Harvard Extension School, and degrees in architecture at UCT, where I was an award-winning student, and WITS. I have been Los Angeles based the last seven years where I was a lead instructor and then center director at Mathnasium, and consulted in analytics to global pharmaceutical firms. I've now returned to South Africa to focus on research and teaching on the back of a deep passion for student development and research.

I meet each student where they are. Every learner has a unique relationship with math and related subjects, and I adapt my teaching style to their background, pace, and goals. My lessons blend top-down insight and bottom-up mastery, linking ideas to their wider academic context while building solid problem-solving technique. I keep sessions interactive through Socratic questioning and guided examples, because progress in these subjects comes from active participation, not passive listening. I teach in English to all levels, from school through university, both online and in person from my home in The Gardens (Johannesburg 2192). I’m flexible with scheduling and available for focused or short-notice support when needed.
