About Yuxuan
Hi, I’m Anna Zhang. I hold a Bachelor’s degree from Hunan University, a prestigious Chinese university, and I earned my LL.M. from the University of Illinois College of Law in the United States. I am currently working as a Law Clerk at a law firm in New York.
Teaching has been an important part of my experience since my university years. As a highly regarded private tutor among students and families, I have developed extensive experience working with learners with different personalities, backgrounds, and learning goals. I am particularly good at understanding each student’s individual needs and adapting my teaching style accordingly.
I believe effective teaching is not about using one fixed method for everyone. For students who need to improve grades and prepare for exams, I can provide structured, focused, and results-oriented instruction with clear goals and high standards. At the same time, for students who want to learn in a more relaxed way, I can create engaging and enjoyable lessons that make learning feel natural rather than stressful.

My teaching approach is patient, practical, and student-centered. I adjust each lesson according to the student’s Chinese level, learning goals, interests, and pace. I believe that learning Chinese should go beyond memorizing vocabulary and grammar. Students should have opportunities to understand how the language works and use it naturally in real-life situations.
A typical lesson may begin with a review of previously learned material, followed by new vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, reading, or writing. I pay particular attention to Mandarin pronunciation and tones, helping students identify and correct pronunciation difficulties. Depending on the student’s goals, we may also practice conversations, reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, and sentence structure. I provide clear explanations, examples, corrections, and guided practice throughout the lesson.
What sets me apart is that I am a native Mandarin speaker with substantial teaching experience and strong communication skills in English. When necessary, I can explain Chinese pronunciation, grammar, and language patterns clearly in English, making the learning process easier for English-speaking students. At the same time, I encourage students to gradually use more Chinese during lessons so they can develop confidence and practical communication skills.
My lessons are designed for adults and learners of all levels, including beginners with no prior Chinese experience, intermediate students who want to improve their speaking and comprehension, and advanced learners who want to strengthen their reading and writing. I can also tailor lessons for students learning Chinese for everyday communication, travel, work, study, or personal interest.
My goal is to make Chinese learning clear, practical, and enjoyable while helping each student make steady progress toward their individual goals.
