About Jamie
I have taught Italian language courses at all levels, to adults, and children, since 2005. Primarily a professional translator, I earned my MFA in literary translation from the University of Iowa and my PhD in comparative literature from the University of Oregon. I've translated dozens of books from Italian and lived and worked in Milan for eight years. I bring a wealth of experience and perennial curiosity to my linguistic knowledge and I love sharing with students!

I teach Italian from the perspective of someone who knows what it's like to learn the language! My background in literature and translation gives me a profound perspective on the differences between Italian and English, and I've taught classes at all levels to adults and children. I can help you review or practice for a class you are already taking, guide you through the basics, or develop a specialized program according to your interests. My lessons are customized according to individual student need and I specialize in including realia—real cultural materials (music, TV/film, news, current events, literature, comics, trends, etc.) in my teaching.
