About Piper
Hello! My name is Piper, and I am a dedicated educator and writer who truly enjoys helping students grow in confidence and ability. I have experience working with learners of different ages, including elementary students building foundational writing skills and older students developing essays, organization, and creative expression. I focus on creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, and learning at their own pace.
As both a teacher and an active writer, I bring practical knowledge of the writing process into my lessons. My approach as a tutor is supportive, structured, and personalized to each student’s goals and learning style. I currently work with an elementary student using a “Think Outside the Box” method, which focuses on building critical thinking skills alongside writing ability. For example, we use tools like Venn diagrams to organize ideas, compare and contrast concepts, and then transform those ideas into clear, well-structured paragraphs. This approach helps students understand how to think before they write, which makes writing feel much more manageable and less stressful.
Teaching Method and Techniques
I believe students learn best by actively practicing skills with guidance rather than just listening to explanations. I break writing tasks into clear steps, such as brainstorming, organizing ideas, drafting, and revising. I also model examples, use graphic organizers, and provide supportive feedback so students can see their progress over time. For creative writing students, I incorporate prompts, storytelling exercises, and character or worldbuilding activities to make lessons engaging and fun.
