About Ruby
I’m a young, dedicated and approachable English tutor with high GCSE and A-Level Grades, with a pathway into a degree in ‘English Literature with Creative Writing’ at the University of Warwick. I have Autism and ADHD, making my approach to learning very different from traditional schooling (which is only a benefit, in my opinion). As a neurodivergent young person, I see the world in a different way, making my teaching style unique and unlike the monotony of ‘normal’ school. I celebrate diverse minds and thinking patterns, which may be ‘too much’ for conventional schooling, but should be encouraged further in creative subjects, such as English. As someone with SEN, the school system is not designed in my favour - nevertheless, I am too stubborn to allow that to inhibit my learning. I want to make learning enjoyable and interesting for every young person, no matter their circumstances. Tailoring each lesson to the individual student, I focus on building confidence, clarity and critical thinking. I engage students with a mix of close reading, structured essay planning, and discussion-based analysis to help students deeply understand and enjoy their texts, while expressing their ideas effectively. I also provide targeted feedback and exam strategies to boost performance under timed conditions. These techniques enabled me to achieve Grades of 8 and 9 in English Literature and Language GCSE, and a Grade A in English Literature A-Level. My lessons are ideal for: - GCSE students (Years 10–11) focusing on English Language and/or Literature - A-Level students (Years 12–13) focusing on English Literature.
